Let It Snow…Let It Snow

Media_httpbp0bloggerc_qamwy
This morning Vancouverites, woke up to a blanket of white. Snow always conjures up childhood memories for me. The sight of snow makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I think, of my youth and how we would sit around the radio listening for a list of school closures. I’m sure there were some kids today, that wish the snow fell on a weekday, instead of a weekend. The snowfall always puts me into a Christmas mood. It make me want to just watch the snow fall and bake shortbread cookies.

Hooray! Wireless Freedom Coming To Canada

Media_httpbp3bloggerc_cneye
Today while browsing our local free 24 hour paper, instantly a headline caught my eye. It read “Government Opens Up Wireless Market”. I was ecstatic, finally there would be some competition instead, of the archaic monopoly. For years Bell, Rogers and the evil empire Telus, has taken advantage of us Canadian consumers. I would love to see Verizon, or AT& T come in and kick Telus’s ass, even if it did mean selling our souls to the American devil. No wireless company or Internet service provider should be able to dominate any market. In California, the people have the right to move their cable company out of town if they refuse to do a good job. They get a 5 year contract, and if in that time they rip people off, they are told to pack their bags. Today it is the wireless networks and maybe tomorrow, it will be the Internet broadband service providers and then the cable companies. Only time will tell, if us the Canadian people will get a better deal, or if the CEO's of these so-called competitors will just line their pockets with gold. An Old Friends Visits

Media_httpbp2bloggerc_iffgz
I know, I haven't written in a while, not that anyone would notice, since no one reads this. I will continue to write when I am up to it, and when I can. I have been going through some kind of mid-life crisis. I have taken up the guitar again. I know what everyone thinks, I'm sitting in a corner playing Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell songs. To a certain extent that is very true. There's nothing I like better than a good folk song, with a good story to tell. These are some of the best kind of songs. Songs that are king. What I have in my mind right now, are the blues. I want nothing more, than to learn my pentatonic scales, and whale on an electric guitar. I feel that would feed my broken down soul. I would like to do this all on a pink paisley fender telecaster and a screaming fender amp. Call it crazy, but on the other hand I call it just getting reacquainted with an old friend. Wish me luck.

When Nothing Else Matters

Media_httpbp2bloggerc_djbcs
I have said this often, and I also know that it is a quote from the movie "City Slickers." "If you find that one thing, then nothing else matters". I guess, for some people it is finding that one thing that they are passionate for. You have to have the passion and fire for whatever this one thing is. So much so, that everything else seems small, and not as important. For me those other minumute things, were shopping. I loved to shop, but now I don't feel the need to. We as human beings, seem to fill up our empty spots in our souls with addictions, such as shopping, food and drugs. I was lucky enough to revisit an old friend my guitar. I gave it up some 8 years ago, why I won't go into right now, but it happened. Now that the passion is back for singing and playing, I feel somewhat alive again. I never realilzed it but part of my being and soul has been missing all these years. Now that it is back, as I said other things don't matter so much. I guess, what I save on shopping, I can put into some new guitars. If someone has a Lavarrie that they don't need, Ill be willing to take it off your hands.

The Big Chill!

Media_httpbp1bloggerc_jbhkl
I was surfing the net, looking up light beer (I'm not much of a drinker, but in the summer, I feel like having a beer once in a while), when one day I ran across a drink called a "Cheleda"(In Mexican it loosely means "Cold One). Apparently, they serve it up at Mexican resorts. When you are basking in the sun, you don't want to drink anything really heavy. In the U.S. Miller has come up with their own version in a bottle, they are referring to it as "The Chill". Here in Canada, we don't carry it, so I thought why not come up with my own. I served it to my friend Anne, who really liked it, she said, "That it is more like a cocktail, than a beer". Anne sure does know her drinks. Believe me when I say, that Anne is an authority on cocktails. Recipe 1 bottle Corona (probably any Mexican or Brazilian beer will do) Dip the rim of your glass in lime juice and dip it in coarse salt Squeeze the rest of the wedge of lime into your glass Fill glass with ice cubes, and beer Optional (a dash of tabasco and worcestershire, personally I leave it out) Decorate rim with fresh lime wedge Now sit back and enjoy!

How To Keep Your Cat Cool!!!

Media_httpbp1bloggerc_qogzi
For the last few days it has been hovering around 30 degrees Celsius here on the west coast of British Columbia. It has been so uncomfortable, almost painful. I can't remember it being this hot, ever. If you are looking to buy an air conditioner or a fan in the lower mainland, good luck, they have been sold out for days. Us humans can drink lots of water, or go for a swim or a run through the sprinkler but, what do our furry friends do to cool off. My cat, Smokey has been spending her days looking spent, on the floor of my bedroom. Cats are smarter than us humans, they get low to the ground, where it is cooler. The poor thing looks so hot. Imagine what it would be like to wear a fur coat in the middle of summer, not fun. I suppose if she were a dog I could just take her to a dog friendly lake. Besides not being a dog she also refuses to travel, a rolling stone is is not. She doesn't mind water though, at my last apartment, she used to jump up on my counter near the kitchen sink, and drink water from the tap. What I do to cool her off is wet a facecloth, and wipe her with it to cool her off. I do the same thing when I am too hot, put a wet towel on my head, I just don't go out in public, looking that way. I also make sure her water bowls are all changed, frequently, and for a added touch I put ice in it. Today when I left for work, she was sleeping on my bed, and I made sure that the fan was on and pointing towards her. The last thing all you pet owners have to remember, is to leave your pets at home, and not take them with you in the car. A lot of people think they can leave them in the car with all the windows rolled up for five minutes, but that is all it takes to kill an animal in a car. Then there are those that leave a crack open, again that is not enough. Be kind and let Rover or Misty stay home, under a shaded tree, with a great big bowl of water.

Facebook Is Like A Bad Fish

Media_httpbp1bloggerc_zgbbh
Lately there has been this phenomenon of staying connected via your computer or cell telephone no matter where you are. Why people would want to do this, is beyond me. I feel most of us, lead pretty normal and boring lives. I don't need to read or see what all my friends are not up to. I have to admit, I did try Twitter, Jaiku and even Facebook, just to see what it was all the fuss was about. One day, I finally realized what these websites were really meant for. I discovered that my long lost relatives could look me up, for a free place to stay. I have to admit, I was and possibly still am offended, that they just connect with me, and then all of a sudden they are telling me the price of hotels in Vancouver are too expensive, and that they might have to camp out in a cardboard box. I have always had the theory that relatives are like fish, after 3 days they begin to stink. Long lost relatives are even smellier, because the only reason, they found you via Facebook was so they could sponge a place to stay. Before there was the Internet, there was the telephone book and directory assistant. Why didn't they try and contact me via those methods, long before the information highway. Anyway, the moral to this story is don't sign up for anything that gives you a public profile, sooner or later, it won't only be the relatives finding you, but also the bill collectors, and maybe even Tony Soprano. In closing, I have to say Facebook is like a bad fish that should be avoided.
